Simply the best town. Well, we here at King West Stamford think so, anyway. It is officially the finest stone town in England. Almost exactly half way between London and York, Stamford gained its historical wealth from the wool trade but now trades a plethora of independent retailers and even some well-known chains too.
This week we want to share with you a few reasons why #WeLoveStamford and celebrate a bit about our precious corner of England.
Fine Foods- run by the wonderful Jenny Fitzpatrick and full of delicious cakes and fresh coffee- but so much more besides! Founded in 2004, Jenny is famous in Stamford for her warm and friendly welcome and of course the most amazing cakes. Breakfast is served until 2pm with lunch available from 11am. Our favourite dish is the lamb kofta kebabs with tzatziki and pita bread with a healthy dollop of Greek salad followed by carrot cake and a walk the very long way round back to the office to help it all down! @jennyfinefoods
You may well already know our next stop already- Stamford Notebooks, again a family business run by Hugo Speigl. We wouldn’t write in anything else and neither should you! Handmade cloth and leather notebooks with over 60 colours and textures to chose from- what better reason to start writing a diary and maybe find a new vocation. Hugo will happily peronalise your notebook with embossed initials and letterpress type. It’s light green or pink leather in luxury cloth hardback for us. A book from The Stamford Notebook Company makes even the scruffiest writer take more care! @SNCStamford
Next we skip over to Robert Loomes and Co Watchmakers- a traditional family firm of watchmakers who produce the only entirely British - made mechanical watches in the world. See, told you we were special in Stamford. A dozen craftsmen and women work from the Loomes' historic riverside workshops combining all their skills and hundreds of hours' work into every single watch. Each is a work of art: a modern classic, which tells no more than a ladies or gentleman’s watch, should - the right time.
Loomes work in stainless steel or 18ct rose gold, making very limited editions of each of their designs. Their first edition of 100 all-British watches, the Robin, is now sold out, but fear not, the next set of designs are in the workshops as I type. Their latest watches all carry white-glass enamel dials hand-fired in Stamford and designed to last a lifetime. Robert Loomes and Co
Having been at their St Mary’s Street location for 35 years and with a pedigree in Lincolnshire hand crafted saddlery, since 1905, Robinson’s of Stamford specialise in premium leather goods, gifts and country wear. The place to head for a wonderful statement handbag, branded seasonal outerwear and fantastic gifts for even the hardest to please man in your family (yes, we all have one of those…) @Robinsonclothes
Just a few of the reasons why #WeLoveStamford.
