What is ELS Online and what are the benefits to clients?

ELS Online is a software package that enables preparation of ELS application forms for submission to Natural England via the Internet.

The software offers time-saving devices, such as a boundary measurement tool, an automatic points calculator and a scribble map facility. This makes it easier to calculate point totals and removes the repetition and duplication associated with traditional paper forms. Once complete, applications are sent electronically to Natural England and the application status can be monitored throughout.

Owing to the improved accuracy of ELS Online applications, the number of mistakes are limited which therefore decreases the time Natural England take to process an application. Subsequently, this can lead to a faster start date and first payment date for clients.

A map of a holding and the point accruing options can be saved and printed for personal records and quick reference.

King West are able to submit applications on behalf of clients and would be very happy to discuss this with you.

Who is not eligible to use ELS Online?

Land with Less Favoured Area (LFA) status is currently not eligible for ELS Online. However, the software is scheduled to be upgraded to accept LFA land parcels and Uplands ELS applications at the beginning of 2010.

Where land parcels or groups of land parcels are separated by more than 1km, the ELS Online maps will enclose the groups of parcels in a separate block with a surrounding buffer. The size of the individual blocks will be added together, if this area is greater than 140 km2 you must request a paper application.

King West can assist clients who wish to register under ELS either online or via paper-based applications. Please contact either Mike Holland or David Featherstone at our Stamford office on 01780 484520 for further information.
